Nestled at the corner of Hollywood Road and Peel Street in Central, Brazilian Japanese restaurant and bar Uma Nota is thrilled to roll out an exhilarating new dinner and weekend brunch that introduces an array of inventive new dishes, thoughtfully curated portion sizes and competitively priced options. The menu promises to elevate the communal dining experience, making sharing with friends an even more joyful and satisfying experience.

With an invigorated sense of creativity and a deep understanding of what makes a joyful meal, the culinary team at Uma Nota, led by Executive Chef Gustavo Enrique Vargas Mora, is passionate about Brazilian and South American cooking. His menus offer diners of all persuasions and appetites a combination of Japanese cooking techniques, authentic Brazilian ingredients and unique São Paulo flavours, paying homage to the rich heritage of Japanese migration to Brazil. From zesty, fresh seafood ceviche to succulent grilled dishes, each new addition captures the unique flavours of Brazilian flair and Japanese precision and has something for every palate.

But that’s not all—Uma Nota has thoughtfully reimagined the portion sizes to encourage a more shared dining experience, allowing everyone at the table to indulge in a greater variety of flavours. Whether guests are passing plates of the puffy and soft Brazilian-style Truffle Cheese Bun (HK$88), made with fermented tapioca flour, milk, parmesan and mozzarella cheese, and filled with truffle paste; Dadinhos de Tapioca (HK$68), a savoury Brazilian tapioca cheese that’s crispy on the outside, soft and gooey on the inside, and is served with a sweet chilli sauce; Grilled Baby Corn (HK$60) dressed with spicy mayonnaise, wasabi furikake and topped with a generous amount of shaved parmesan cheese; sharing portions of Chicken Okonomiyaki (HK$110), a savoury Japanese cabbage “frittata” or pancake made with crispy fried chicken, “Katsuobushi” bonito flakes, and dressed with Tongkatsu sauce and mayonnaise; or tucking into Sake Steamed Clams (HK$150), each dish is designed to bring people together and make every meal a festive gathering.

Uma Nota’s exquisitely curated raw section presents a vibrant array of crowd-pleasing seafood specialities, served raw to preserve their natural flavours. Highlighting the menu is the Trio Tartar (HK$158), featuring diced scallops, salmon, and Hamachi, marinated with yuzu kosho and lime, and served with crunchy Gyoza skins; Salmon Tradito(HK$160) marinated with yuzu Tosazu, a condiment blend with rice vinegar, soy sauce, mirin and dashi broth, paired with vibrant mango salsa and crisp radish, adding a refreshing crunch to the dish; and Hotate (HK$178), raw scallops served with “Sunomono” cucumber salad with rice vinegar dressing, zesty orange and Ponzu gel.

Seafood connoisseurs looking for something a little heartier to share can choose the Soft Shell Crab Moqueca (HK$190), an iconic Brazilian dish that’s also known as “Brazilin seafood stew”, in this case crispy deep-fried soft shell crab served on top of a bed of cashew nuts and “Farofa” Brazilian roasted cassava flour, and topped with creamy Bahiana Moqueca sauce made with tomatoes, onions, garlic, lime, coriander, coconut milk and dendê oil, also known as red palm oil. Alternatively, look out for Roasted Salmon (HK$230) with Saikyo marinated miso, served on top of grilled shitake mushroom with umami dressing, made with miso cream and kombu oil; and Grilled Octopus (HK$250) served with bell pepper chimichurri and cassava foam made with roasted cassava and blended with butter and cream.

Other sharing main options include Grilled Chicken (HK$188), where the chicken thigh is marinated overnight with a blend of smoked dried chilli, molasses, rice vinegar and fish sauce before being grilled to perfection and served with creamy corn and baby spinach salad on the side; and Grilled Flank Steak (HK$298), US Prime flank steak served with burnt spring onion, and tare sauce made with soy sauce, sake, and sweet mirin.

Be sure to leave room for palate-pleasing desserts like Coconut and Cassava Cake (HK$80) with passion fruit cream and mango sorbet; and the eggless Chocolate Mousse (HK$98) made with Rio de Janeiro’s Carioca single-origin chocolate and topped with chocolate crumble, tuile, and berry coulis.

Nipo-Brasileiro Nuances in a Glass

Besides the selection of refreshing cocktails made with Brazil's national spirit, cachaça, new bar manager Kim Padua has curated a selection of refreshing cocktails that will match well with the new a la carte menu, including the Raposa (HK$100), a refreshing choice with lemongrass infused vodka, coconut, and zesty lemon; Akira’s Kisu (HK$100), a spritz-style concoction of peach and infused peach tea sake, calamansi and sakura shrub, topped with soda water; and Toque Picante (HK$110) a floral and spiced gin-and-tonic with rosemary-infused gin, aloe, and lychee, with a hint of ginger and nutmeg.

Uma Nota’s popular happy hour is available from Sunday to Thursday, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm, with special prices on the Brazilian national cachaça-based cocktail Caipirinha, wines selection, prosecco, Aperol Spritz, beer and spirits at just HK$50 per glass.

About Uma Nota

Uma Nota is a modern boteco, which in Brazil is traditionally known as a meeting place for those looking for a refreshing drink and good street food in a fun, easy-going setting.

Nestled at the corner of Hollywood Road and Peel Street in Central, the Brazilian Japanese restaurant and bar brings São Paulo's Nipo-Brasileiro street food and cocktails to SoHo.

Offering a unique twist to the rich heritage of Japanese migration to Brazil, the restaurant has adapted a menu to include local ingredients which feature in dishes that combine Japanese cooking techniques with fresh, authentic and unique São Paulo flavours.

Meraki Hospitality Group

Meraki Hospitality Group is a Hong Kong-based company founded in 2018 by brother and sister duo Alexis and Laura Offe. Having grown up in Hong Kong, where street food culture is cherished and widely celebrated, they are passionate about exploring rich culinary traditions that are representative of everyday life and are intent on recreating them in modern yet approachable ways for today's diners.

Hong Kong's first Brazilian-Japanese street food restaurant Uma Nota opened in 2017 as a nod to the botecos of Brazil and the long history of Japanese migration to São Paulo. In 2018, following the success of Uma Nota Hong Kong, Meraki Hospitality Group opened Uma Nota Paris, introducing Nipo-Brasileiro cuisine to the Parisian dining scene.

Soon after, BEDU opened in 2018 on Gough Street, Central. The cosy Middle Eastern restaurant and bar showcase the region's diverse street food culture, and local and seasonal produce with a modern twist, making it unique to Central Hong Kong.

The concepts are unpretentious, open-minded and lively, qualities which are reflected in their design, the food and drinks. Meraki is about uniting groups of like-minded people through a community of locals, travellers and the team. With each new idea, Alexis and Laura seek a connection to the soul of the cuisine, reinterpreted through the lens of creativity and a love for food and culinary traditions.

In 2024, Uma Nota expanded its reach to Manila, opening its doors to bring the brand's unique fusion of Brazilian and Japanese flavours with a local twist to this vibrant city. Uma Nota continues to embody its core values of warmth and diversity, offering a taste of cultural richness to the exciting Manila food scene.
